According to reports on the Wall Street Journal, Japan's SoftBank is set to acquire Britain chip design firm, ARM Holdings for $32 billion.

ARMI licenses the IP for its designs to manufacturers (Qualcomm, Samsung, Huawei, NVIDIA, Apple etc).

Last year 2016, ARM-designed hardware running mobile devices reached above 15 billion.
SoftBank has over the years proven to be a major tech space investor.
